MEMBERSHIP AGREEMENT

The Phantis Club

The Phantis Club and the Phantis Club Forums are intended to foster constructive discussion about local, social, political and sports issues, current events and the articles that appear on Phantis, a place where members exchange opinions and information primarily on subjects of interest to Greeks and the Greek diaspora. 

Candidate members are advised that Club membership is a privilege that the Phantis administration grants to those who demonstrate to its satisfaction willingness to participate and revokes whenever, in the sole judgment of the Phantis administration, the privilege is abused. Those uncertain about the ability and the willingness of the Phantis administration to use sound judgment and act responsibly, should consider not applying for membership.

Registration

You may read Phantis Club Forums postings without registering. You only need to register if you wish to post a message. You must agree to the Membership Rules below before registering.

You must provide a valid e-mail address so that we can e-mail you your password. All information you post to the Phantis Club Forums will be viewable by all visitors to the Web site (except your e-mail which you have the choice to make visible or not.)

In order to protect the forums and the members from recurring and persistent abuse, the Phantis Club members who do not provide sufficient personal identification information will have limited privileges. (see Levels of Membership) 

Membership

Levels of Membership

Level 1 Membership
Level 1 is the level of membership of those who do not wish to provide identifying information. Level 1 members do not have access to private messaging  and their submissions will be read and approved (moderated) before being released for public viewing. Depending on the volume of Level 1 Member postings, Phantis does not guarantee as to the timely moderated release of Level 1 Member posted messages.  In order to become a Level 1 Member a person must provide a valid e-mail address. Instructions on how to become a Level 2  Member will be available once a person becomes a Level 1 Member.

Level 2 Membership
Level 2 membership is open to those who: provide sufficient personal identification information via a Level 3 member sponsorship  or a nominal value commercial transaction, and
 agree to either volunteer in a work group (see Phantis Club Groups) or to pay a nonrefundable annual membership fee.

Level 3 Membership
Level 3 membership is conferred to those Level 2 members who are authorized to provide identifying information for new Level 2 members.  Level 3 members are trusted to provide accurate identifying information.  Level 3 membership is granted/revoked by the Phantis management and reflects solely its opinion about the member's ability and willingness to exercise sound judgment concerning sponsorship. Sponsors of members may be held accountable for the subsequent behavior of those sponsored. 

Personal Identification/Privacy
In order to enter Level 2 and above membership a person needs to provide the following truthful information:

Phantis will not share this information with anyone outside the Phantis organization who cannot enforce a legal claim for disclosure (please refer to the privacy notice).

Rules of Conduct

The Phantis Club Forums are committed to free expression for all; that is, members are expected and required to respect each other and their obligations to the society at large.  Therefore, members:
-Should not unnecessarily antagonize others;
-Should not post any material that is defamatory, infringing, obscene, pornographic, abusive, or otherwise unlawful, or which violates the legal rights of others; you are legally liable for what you write in the Forums.  In particular, do not infringe on copyright.
-Should refrain from personal attacks - or "flames" - and always attempt to advance the topic when posting. Messages that do not contribute to the discussion may be removed to promote a more lively exchange of ideas. 
Should not use the forums in ways incompatible to the forms' purpose for being.  -In particular, they should  not use the Phantis Club Forums to advertise, solicit, promote the purchase of goods or services, operate or engage in surveys, contests, chain letters, or commercial enterprises, or for any other commercial purpose. 

failure to respect these rules can result in warnings, having posted messages edited or removed, in temporary membership suspension or in permanent member exclusion. Phantis has sole discretion to apply any of these sanctions at any time and without prior notice.  

Appendix A - Phantis Club Groups

Members may join one of the following groups. All members joining a group will be subject to reporting to and following the instrucions of the group leader - an individual evaluated as trustworthy and reliable by the Phantis administration. Becoming a group member is subject to approval by the group leaders and/or the Phantis administration. Group members will be evaluated on performance and must maintain satisfactory levels of participation in order to maintain Level 2 membership.

The Artists
The people that make sure we always 'look sharp'... Those who are successful in graphic design.

The Reporters
If they didn't write about it, it didn't happen!... People willing to contribute  to the news reporting services of Phantis. News covers all areas, from politics to arts, to sports.

The Developers
If we don't have it, they'll make it!... People knowledgable with computer languages and programming. The basic necessities of these services are HTML, PHP, MySQL, and Javascript.

The Evangelists
Spreading the word... Individuals that are willing to assist with making these services known to a broader public. Activities will include recruitment of members from other forums, chat rooms and the likes.

The Surfers
Riding the WWW, finding and listing, for the rest of us, those elusive sites that we've all been looking for. Contribution in this field will help expand the Phantis search engine and directory services resulting in a broader public appeal to the Phantis services in general, including the Phantis Club Forums.

The Sharks
Always looking for the next big deal!... Those individuals familiar with seeking sponsorships and/or collaboration relationships with other relevant WWW services.

The Sportscasters
Who played whom and what happened. All the scores and statistics updates. And of course, your occasional sports trivia.

The Phantoms
Stuff you don't see -- behind the scenes work that contributes to the smooth operation of the Phantis Club and its services. Services include legal, marketing and consumer oriented contributions by members.

Access

Members (Subscribers to the Phantis Club Services) are responsible for providing all personal computer and communications equipment necessary to gain access to the Phantis services. Access to and use of the Phantis Club is through a combination of an ID and a password. Each Member must keep his password strictly confidential. Phantis will not release passwords for any reason, except as may be specifically required by law or court order. Unauthorized access to the Phantis Club is a breach of this Agreement and a violation of law.
 
Warranty

No warranty is made by Phantis regarding any information, services, or products provided through or in connection with the Phantis Club, and Phantis hereby expressly disclaims any and all warranties, including without limitation: any warranties as to the availability, accuracy, or content of information, products, or services; any warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. Some states/provinces do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so the above exclusion may not apply to you. 

The Member hereby warrants and represents that he or she is in all respects is qualified and competent to enter into this agreement.
 
Limitation of Liability

Phantis is not obligated to monitor the content on this site. However, with respect to the use of the products and services offered on this site, Phantis reserves the right to disclose any information or materials as necessary to satisfy any applicable law, regulation, legal process or government request, or to edit, refuse to post or to remove any information or materials, in whole or in part, from the this site, in Phantis's sole discretion, without notice at any time. 

This site may contain message board services, chat areas, communities, personal pages, pages created and/or maintained by publishers, or other communication facilities. You agree to use these facilities only to post, send and receive messages and material that are proper and related to the particular facility, and to comply with all applicable laws and these Terms of Use and Notices. 

Phantis reserves the right, but is not obligated, to review materials posted to this site and to remove any such materials and/or edit such materials in its sole discretion, without notice at any time. In addition, Phantis reserves the right to terminate your access to any or all of the sites and services at any time without notice for any reason whatsoever. User Restriction

The material on the Phantis Club is for the private, non-commercial enjoyment of Members only. Any other use is strictly prohibited. Phantis and its publishing partners spend a great deal of time and money to obtain the information appearing on its web sites. Members agree that they will not copy, publish, or in any way make available publicly any news, pictures, interviews, features, or any other information from Phantis web sites, without express written permission from Phantis. Members agree that, should they do so, Phantis reserves the right to cancel their membership immediately without refund. Additionally, reuse of copyrighted information (pictures, interviews, features, videos, audio, etc.) will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. 

To prevent access by multiple users sharing one account, Phantis reserves the right to limit access for each Member to a fixed number of physical locations or machines or to a specific number of simultaneous logons.  In addition, if such a scenario exists, member is responsible for logging out appropriately in order to login successfully in another location.
 
Notices

Notices by Phantis to Members may be given by means of electronic messages or by a general posting on the service. Notices by Members may be given by electronic messages. 

Agreement

This Agreement contains the entire agreement between the Members or user and Phantis regarding the use of the services, and supersedes all prior written and oral understandings and writings. 

The Agreement shall be governed pursuant to the laws of the State of Pennsylvania. Venue shall be in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania for any and all cases arising out of the use of the Phantis network and/or regarding content published on the Phantis network. By using this site, registering on this site, or subscribing to this site, you agree to all of these terms.
