I made this topic to post some band names or song names from bands mostly outside of Greece. These bands or songs will almost always have something to do with "Greece" or "Greek". The band's singer may be Greek, the song may be in Greek or about Greece, you name it.

First band I'ld like to name here with a song that's definitely worth listening to once, is:

Silversun Pickups - Lazy Eye. The song is from the band's first album Carnavas. The title (Carnavas) is an homage to Brian Aubert's (lead vocals/guitar) Greek heritage.

Oh, also because this is the first post in this thread: don't ask me for programs, links etc to download these songs. This is not that kind of thread/forum. Buy them or download them in a legal way!

Ok long time since I've written in this one, but here's another person/band you might not have known is Greek:

Criss Angel.

From wikipedia:

Christopher Nicholas Sarantakos (born December 19, 1967), better known by his stage name Criss Angel is an American magician, musician, mentalist, hypnotist, escapologist, stunt performer, and actor. He is best known for starring in his own television show, Criss Angel Mindfreak.

Criss Angel was born on December 19, 1967, raised in New York and is of Greek descent.

His musical style is mainly "metal", a song worth listening to is "Mindfreak" (also the name of his show).

Mihalis by David Gilmour (guitarist of the Pink Floyd) is the name of the first song on the eponymous first solo album "David Gilmour." "Mihalis" is Greek for Michael and the song was named after Gilmour's yacht he owned at the time.

The song is available on YouTube here

Interesting topic.

I hope questions are allowed smile.gif

I remember reading somewhere that Pink Floyd spen a lot of time writing music in Crete either in late 60s, or early 70's. Does anyone know if this is true?

And to contribute one:

The first song of Pulp Fiction Soundtrack, "Misirlou" by Dick Dale is actually an old 19th c. Greek/Turkish/mid-eastern tune, attributed to Michalis Patrinos.

Listen to the nice NPR report here: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.p...storyId=5134530 (click the "listen" button under the title).

And the wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misirlou

I've haven't heard about Crete, but I have heard about Rhodes as being a Pink Floyd spot...
References from the web:
This beautiful village on the Greek island of Rhodes has a strong Pink Floyd connection stretching back more than 30 years. All of the band have enjoyed extended stays in this magical place since the early 70's & David Gilmour still owns a house in the village having many good friends amongst the locals. (Source)

...and a Guide to Lindos : During the late-1960s, foreign artists, writers and musicians flocked here to escape the modern world, and some bought houses, including Pink Floyd's David Gilmour.

From a book, "This Way to Paradise" by Willard Manus (part of the description): Willard Manus's memoir of the thirty-five years he and his Scottish wife and two children have spent in the Greek Island village of Lindos is one of the best books about Greece ever written. Its portraits of the villagers and of the foreigners living side by side with them - people such as the humorist S. J. Perleman, the Pink Floyd Band, the novelists Richard Hughes and Martha Gelhorn, among others - are vivid and memorable.

For those of us that love the blues: Johnny Otis -- 2nd generation Greek American. (Frank Zappa has cited Otis as the inspiration for his distinctive trademark facial hair, stating in an interview conducted by Simpsons creator Matt Groening and Guitar Player magazine editor Don Menn that "it looked good on Johnny Otis, so I grew it.")

Gus G (Kostas Karamitroudis), who played for Arch Enemy, Nightrage and others, now in his own, all-Greek band Firewind. Here's a small part from a concert of theirs in Tokyo, a "vs" between him and keyboard player Bob Katsionis!

Enjoy: Marina Diamandis (from Marina and the Diamonds), song: Hollywood.

She's half Greek and half Welsh. Doesn't mind using her voice in a less "pop"y kind of way, she's good and pretty too biggrin.gif ...
