I wish I had that device when I was in school. Depending on the model and maker, these book readers cost $300-400 apiece, plus the cost of the book --at a greatly reduced price though.

If the Greek state provides free books to the students, this might be a way to save money and trees.

A few weeks ago, I heard a rumor that Amazon would come out with Kindle 2.0 which is much more improved and thinner. So if you know anyone who wants a Kindle, not a Sony, tell them to wait a few more weeks before ordering one.

Anyway, the Kindle was sold out, so even if you ordered one during the holidays and even these days, you'd have to wait 3-4 weeks.

I'm seriously considering getting one 'cause I read and often I jump from book to book, so this device would be great. But, I want to actually try one for a few hours to see if it's easy on the eyes. Don't want to be looking at a computer screen reading lots of pages.

Have you seen/tried one?

This is the future (not necessarily these 2 machines) but I don't think we'll be using all this paper in the near future.

PS> I don't live in Greece nor do I vote there. Any sensible proposal (sorry, but I've seen very few) no matter where it comes from , is welcomed. It has always been my wish that on matters of education there should be a common approach by all major parties. Instead of changing the rules and the whole system every few years.

Sounds great + probably way better for the environment and forrests! Great initiative! (Btw just to clarify: I don't support (or know much about) any political party in Greece so don't shoot me, I only know that was Papandreou from PASOK.)

they're not harsh on the eyes at all, its not like a computer screen, the background is just like a book, that was my concern also i was amazed when i first saw one, light grey background and no light. the best thing i can think to compare the display with would be a calculator

How much do they go for over there? The Sony and the Kindle....

A good friend got a Kindle 2.0 recently and she lent it to me for a while... Not bad, not bad at all.

Now an even newer version (longer) was announced by Bezios of Amazon and my school will be part of the testing..... Man, if I could be part of the testing and get one for free that would be sooooooooooooooo cool.. tongue.gif tongue.gif

the kindle has a dictionary and is more expensive that's why i went for the sony(i'm a man of modest means), i'm very happy with it, they are great devices.

like i said earlier though they are over priced i was charged 170 of my finest english pounds for mine from play.com, the postage was free though thumbup.gif

you'll do well to get a couple for free from your workplace
