Yes, same happens with Taxi in Greece too sometimes. They just need to make stronger laws to protect passengers rights from these scams etc.
In Bagdat, People may seem 'fake', but to me its normal because that is like all of Athens these "fake" people Its a shame because such small things like this are putting negative experience for visitors. In some people, they let it dominate their opinion of their trip, and this is very bad for Turkish tourism. Generally, consumer protection is what is needed. Many times also in bar, they put a price outside and then its different inside.

Hey Drakos, i am glad to hear you had a good trip in Istanbul. It seems that you have been to great places, hope next time you visit my favorite place Nevizade well i think taxi drivers problems are a bit global. Haydar has given you good tips, next time try to talk them in Turkish, that can work too.. by the way also be careful because 5 and 50 TL are very similar, my mother always confuses of them. when i was in Athens, i had a different problem about taxis. once in a busy hour, i tried to stop one but none of them stopped, me and my friends tried for nearly half an hour because we were really tired.. so maybe this is the second biggest problem of Athens.. meanwhile, i found a taxi after midnight when the driver found out i am Turkish, he wanted me to sing the song of Sertab and didn't ask me double money This post has been edited by deniz on Oct 1 2009, 03:38 AM -------------------- [
